Ovulation After: Miscarriage, Birth, IUD Removal, Abortion…

Ovulation After Miscarriageovulation After Miscarriage

Miscarriage is an emotionally draining event. No woman would ever want a miscarriage in her pregnancy.

However, it is never because of anybody’s fault but just the chromosomal dis-balances. Many women often wonder if they can get pregnant immediately after they miscarry.

They wonder if ovulation after miscarriage is even possible. The answer is yes.

Ovulation after miscarriage is possible just two weeks later. That is to say, two weeks after you have had a miscarriage, you can ovulate.

Nonetheless, women are advised to wait for at least 6 months before having intercourse.

This is because the bleeding doesn’t stop completely before the end of 6 months and to avert any possible infections, it is recommended to wait.

Irrespective of whether you wait or not, miscarriage will not lower your chances of ovulating. Ovulation is a continuous process, ovaries never stop working.

Therefore, ovulation after miscarriage takes place, but not immediately. However, two weeks after a miscarriage, women start to ovulate.

Ovulation After Period:

Ovulation after period depends entirely on how long you bleed. If your menstrual cycle is a 28-day cycle then you are likely to ovulate between 10-14 days after the period ends.

After your period ends, 10-14 days later you ovulate for sure. Now if your cycle is shorter than 28 days, then you will ovulate before the 10th day after your period’s end.

So the process of ovulation depends completely on how long you bleed.

Similarly, if you are having a menstrual cycle longer than 28 days then your fertile window is between 14-20 days after your period’s end.

This is when you are most likely to ovulate. Bearing all this in mind, you should be able to calculate your fertile window and then proceed to try conceiving.

Ovulation After Menopause:

Menopause is the stage when the periods completely cease. Now you must be wondering that when ovulation and periods are inter-related then is it even possible that you ovulate after menopause.

Well, after menopause the woman becomes less fertile. They do ovulate, but the process is not as frequent as it was when they had periods.

This is to say that ovulation after menopause is definitely possible but it is less frequent. Ovaries don’t stop working they just become sluggish and slow down their functioning of releasing matured ova.

By the time a woman reaches the age when she has to go through menopause, the eggs that are produced by the ovaries are almost finished. Therefore, ovulation after menopause is not frequent.

Ovulation After D&C:

D & C is an acronym that stands for dilation and curettage. This is a procedure whereby the cervix is dilated to remove the abdominal tissues left in the uterus after a miscarriage, with the help of the curette.

Ovulation after D & C is the same as ovulation after a miscarriage. It takes a little longer and generally occurs 2-3 weeks after this procedure.

There are no complications as such after the procedure and therefore as compared to miscarriage, ovulation after D & C might take a slightly longer time.

Ovulation After Birth:

After child-birth women often go through the basic query that when do they resume ovulating after the delivery. While this differs from woman to woman, ovulation after birth also depends on breastfeeding.

Women who don’t breastfeed exclusively may start ovulating as soon as 4-6 weeks after the childbirth and ovulation can also occur before the woman has her first period after delivery.

On the other hand, women who exclusively breastfeed their children don’t ovulate this early. They take as long as 4-6 months to resume ovulating after birth.

Ovulation After IUD Removal:

If you have had IUD placed in the uterus as a birth control measure and now you’ve had it removed because of whichever reasons, you worry about the ovulation after IUD removal.

IUD is used to prevent pregnancy but after the IUD removal, the fertility reverts back to its normal in the few months itself. Your fertility returns back after the current menstrual cycle.

However, the menstrual cycle may take 4-6 months to become normal, but immediately after the first menstrual cycle after IUD removal, the fertility returns or the ovulation begins. This might also take a year at maximum.

Ovulation After Abortion:

After abortion women are typically surrounded by a common myth that their fertility will not return back and they will not be able to become pregnant again.

This is just a false notion and the reality is that the process of ovulation occurs in body regularly. Ovulation after an abortion doesn’t stop and goes on as it used to before you conceived.

After you have had an abortion your body will start a new menstrual cycle and then within 2-3 weeks of abortion, you will ovulate. Also, about 4-5 weeks after abortion you will have normal periods.

This also largely depends on how far you were in your pregnancy. if you were late in your pregnancy and then you had abortion then in that case you will ovulate 4-5 weeks after abortion.
