What Is A Menstrual Period Or Menses Or Menstrual Cycle
Now, actually what is menses or a menstrual period? Biologically speaking, it refers to the shredding of the uterus wall in case no implantation of the embryo takes place or there is no pregnancy.
Within every 28 days, the uterus prepares itself for pregnancy by developing thick endometrial tissue which sheds in case no pregnancy is found.
This results in the release of blood through the vagina for 5-6 days.

Menstrual Cycle Days
The new menstrual cycle starts from the 1st day of the period and the ovulation days start from about the 14th day.

This phase starts around the 14th or the 15th day after your 1st day of the periods. During ovulation, your egg bursts from its follicle in the ovaries and moves to the fallopian tubes.

How Long Is Luteal Phase
Your luteal phase starts after ovulation until the beginning of menstruation (unless fertilization occurs). Basically, it is the second half of your cycle i.e usually starts from 14th or 15th day after your 1st day of the periods.
