It is important to understand what is GBS Pregnancy all about?

Group B streptococcus (GBS), a kind of bacterial infection found in the vagina or rectum of pregnant ladies.

Group B Strep Baby

Usually, the sign of Group B strep baby is seen in the first 24 hours of the delivery.

There are certain Group B strep symptoms that the baby has signs of infection which include being more sleepy, fussy, the problem in breathing or making some sort of noises.

If the child has this sort of infection and gets survived, there are chances that they may develop disabilities like hearing loss, vision loss or some other mental disorder.

Group B Strep Not Pregnant

Group B Strep Positive When To Go To Hospital

All the pregnant ladies in their 35-37 weeks should get a Group B Strep test done.

In case you are detected with positive Strep B or are already aware that it is GBS Pregnancy, you should immediately consult your doctor.

They usually recommend antibiotics (penicillin) through an IV (in the vein) during the labour period.

You cannot afford to delay this since antibiotics work well only if it is taken 4 hours before the delivery.

GBS bacteria is common and can develop even in a healthy body.

Group B Strep Symptoms

There are chances that doctor feel you have a urinary tract infection (UTI), skin rash your doctor will recommend a GBS Test.

Strep B Symptoms in the child includes fever, vomiting, bluish-colored skin (cyanosis), seizures and poor-feeding.

Does Group B Strep Go Away?

If you want to cure Group B strep, you surely need antibiotics to treat the infection.

Some people believe that it usually goes away on its own but if you get tested Group B Strep and have positive results, the same would be for next 5 weeks and that’s the reason doctors’ advice for this test in last weeks of pregnancy so that the healthy child is delivered.

Group B Strep Treatment

For some patients who are allergic to penicillin, vancomycin is advised.
